This exterior projecting sign design was a product of Iowa City’s CoSign Project, a program started by the American Sign Museum, designed to revitalize neighborhoods through creative sign-making. According to signage data, creative signs can improve the marketing of businesses by 50%, translating to more customers. Using Molly’s Cupcake’s pre-existing logo, I designed the outdoor signage that would hang in front of their storefront. The concept for the signage stemmed from the iconic hanging swings in the store used as customer seats. The mental chains from the swing seats were pulled into the design of the external sign. The product was an addition to all the new creative signage in downtown Iowa City to create a more lively downtown and more visibility for Molly’s Cupcakes.
